Durable small axe for sparring and safe combat. Fully blunted.

The Skeggox (Old Norse: Bearded Axe) is an axe that was in use throughout the Viking Age. The name is derived from the elongated lower portion of the axe head that provides a wide cutting surface without increasing the total weight. The extended part also makes it very well suited for catching shields and weapons. The shaft is untreated, polished ash that can be treated with linseed oil or anything of your choice. A leather protector is included.

This is a blunted version of our original small Skeggox. You can find the sharpened version here: Grimfrost's Skeggox, Small

Product number: 5187

A skeggox is not a heavy duty wood chopping axe. The blade is thin and made for cutting, whilst a wood chipping axe has a wedge shaped blade to withstand the impact. The elongated parts of the blade are especially vulnerable for heavy impacts, since they have no "backing". They are there to minimize weight and increase the cutting edge.
